Cover crops for mulch direct planting in New Zealand vegetable production

Where does mulch come from? Possible cover crop mixes with sowing and termination dates. Our vegetable rotation includes cover crops to provide the mulch and permanent ground cover, right where it is needed. Winter cover crops are in place wherever there are no vegetables, to provide mulch material in spring. Two out of seven years of the crop rotation are fully dedicated to biomass production, for use when not enough material is available. A key to optimise this process is to have as much in-situ material as possible, at as many different times as possible.
